How to determine whether a tape drive needs cleaning
Posted by Sven Koester on 30 September 2008 11:21
Tape drives require cleaning from time to time. Here is how to determine when this should be done:

Usually the tape drive itself determines if cleaning is required and passes this through the SCSI interface. PresSTORE contains a mechanism that
allows to setup an automated cleaning procedure.

Unfortunately, many of today's media changers do not forward that information to the software but are capable to perform the cleaning on their own.
In order to setup automated cleaning for these jukeboxes, please refer to the instructions that came with the jukebox. Note that it may be required to delete and re-add the jukebox in PresSTORE afterwards to read the updated hardware configuration.
If unsure, it is possible to setup both, automated cleaning in PresSTORE and in the jukebox itself.
